Focus on Drying

The AIChE April meeting will focus on drying technology with a seminar presented by Karl Jacob from 2 to 5 pm.

This seminar covers drying fundamentals (equilibrium, psychrometry, kinetics and drying mechanisms), advantages and features of various types of drying equipment (primarily layer and dispersive dryers) and selection of the best equipment. Using his extensive experience with virtually every type of dryer Karl will show how to maximize their performance and make a smart selection. Karl will follow dinner with a talk on troubleshooting dryers and diagnosing typical problems to improve your dryer.

During this meeting we will recognize our members with over 25 years in AIChE with a memento. We do this for every fifth anniversary after 25 years. As a recipient you will receive a personal invitation.

Attendees will receive 3 PDHs for the seminar and 1 PDH for the dinner talk.

Karl Jacob is a chemical engineer with The Dow Chemical Company. He is a Research Scientist/Technical Leader in Engineering Sciences and founded the Solids Processing Lab at Dow in Midland, Michigan. For the last three decades, he has worked on a vast array of particle technology problems, with particular expertise in silo/hopper design, powder mechanics, pneumatic conveying, particle engineering and drying.

Karl has a B.S Ch.E. from Case Western Reserve University. He is a former member of the AIChE Board of Directors, a Fellow and a past chair of the Particle Technology Forum. Karl has been a member of AIChE for over 30 years and is active in the mid-Michigan local section.
